In our last blog, we answered the question of when and how often you should change the air filters in your HVAC system. This time, we will cover a couple more frequently asked questions about your heater and air conditioner. If your AC unit isn’t working as well as it should and no amount of troubleshooting on your end seems to turn anything up, please give us a call at Tom Schaefer Plumbing in Eastlake. Our certified plumbers and HVAC technicians will be able to take care of any problem that you have.
Why Are Some of the Rooms in My House Hot While Others Are Cold?
It’s a common problem at any time of the year — one room is the temperature you’ve set the thermostat to and another room is much warmer or cooler than that. Why does this happen? There could be several causes.
The first possibility is fairly simple to check and correct: the vents. If your vents are blocked, they won’t allow the conditioned air into the room which will make it feel different than the rest of your house. If the vents are closed, open them up and after a short period of time you should notice that the room becomes the temperature you wanted. If the vent is open and air still isn’t flowing, there might be a blockage somewhere in your ducts. In the event of a blockage, call us and we can go through your system and make sure it is cleared out. Removing a block will also save you money on your heating and cooling costs because your system won’t have to work as hard to condition the air and push it out into your home.
How Often Should I Have My HVAC System Serviced?
If you want to keep your air conditioner running as efficiently as possible for as long as possible, regularly scheduled maintenance and service is absolutely necessary. Regular service allows us to stay ahead of any problems and to repair your unit before the damage goes too far and the entire unit needs to be replaced.
We recommend having your HVAC system serviced at least once a year, usually before the season where your unit works the hardest. So if you run your AC all spring and summer, call us when it starts to warm up. If you love to keep your house nice and toasty all winter, call us at the end of the summer.
When we service your system, we will do a full inspection to make sure all of the critical components of your AC unit are in good working shape as well as checking your ducts for blockages. If your unit needs any parts we will order them (or fix it right then if we have the parts on us) and if there are parts of your air conditioner that we need to keep an eye on, we’ll make a note in your file so that when we come out again we will check on it.
If you have any other questions about your HVAC system, please give us a call. We’ve been serving the Eastlake area for years and we’re dedicated to giving you the best plumbing and HVAC service available!
